"In the most important sense a creationist is a person who believes in creation, and that includes people who believe that Genesis is a myth and that creation involved a process called evolution and consumed billions of years."

Creationists and evolutionists are irreconcilable opposites, well actually no. Natural selection, let's take that as a given - an observable fact; all those species of uniquely adapted finches on the Galapagos Islands pretty much seal that deal. So Darwin's right, sort of. But then he went and applied the same reasoning to every species on the planet, including humanity. And that's where he and I part company.
With a short-lived species; white mice, better still fruit flies, even bacteria you can natural select yourself up the kazoo in short order. With a long-lived species you need eons; and that's where Darwin comes unstuck. There's too much of a jump between the poor old 'Lucy' and what you see in the mirror. The fact that paleontologists are still questing for a 'missing link' tells all. There is simply no convincing evidence to link you and me and 'monkeyman'.
Add some form of genetic intervention into the mix and it all starts to make sense. Natural selection continues smoothly as it should for all animal species; except man. With human-kind, although there is evidence of a genetic origin shared with the great apes, there is no evidence of a smooth transition in the fossil record. Many writers have proposed that intelligent extraterrestrial beings have visited Earth in antiquity or prehistory and made (intimate) contact with humans. Such visitors are called ancient astronauts or ancient aliens. Proponents suggest that this contact influenced the development of human cultures, technologies and religions. A common variant of the idea is that deities from most, if not all, religions are actually extraterrestrial in origin, and their technologies were mistaken as evidence of their divine status. There are compelling similarities between established religions and religious practices and the Cargo Cults of the pre-industrial tribal societies in remote parts of New Guinea and other Melanesian and Micronesian societies in the southwest Pacific Ocean.
Proponents of 'ancient astronaut theories' often maintain that humans are either the descendants or creations of extraterrestrial beings who landed on Earth thousands of years ago. An extension of this hypotheses is that much of human knowledge, religion, philosophy and magic came from extraterrestrial visitors who effectively acted as a 'mother culture'. Ancient astronaut proponents also believe that travelers from outer space known built many of the structures on earth such as the pyramids in Egypt and the Moai stone heads of Easter Island or, at the very least, aided humans in building them. It is argued that the evidence for ancient astronauts comes from gaps in historical and archaeological records, and they also maintain that absent or incomplete explanations of historical or archaeological data point to the existence of ancient astronauts. The evidence is said to include archaeological artifacts that they argue are anachronistic or beyond the presumed technical capabilities of the historical cultures with which they are associated (sometimes referred to as 'out-of-place artifacts'); and artifacts and legends which are interpreted as depicting extraterrestrial contact or technologies.
Francis Crick, the co-discoverer of the double helix structure of DNA, however strongly believed in what he called panspermia, the concept that earth was 'seeded' with life, probably in the form of bluegreen algae, by intelligent extraterrestrial species, for the purpose of ensuring life's continuity. He believed that this could have been done on any number of planets of this class, possibly using unmanned shuttles. He talks at length about this theory in his book 'Life Itself'. There is, however, a massive body of information that might lead one to the conslusion that the intervention was so much more 'up close and personal'.
There is also (what I would consider) overwhelming evidence for continued 'alien' contact throughout history and up to, and including, the present day. Accept this and all our religions become no more than an elaborate 'cargo cult' sparked by exposure with an immeasurably more advanced civilisation. (add exosomatic theory).

With a short-lived species - white mice, better still fruit flies, and especially with bacteria and viruses - you can naturally select yourself up the kazoo in very short order indeed. There's too much of a jump between the poor 3.2 million year old old 'Lucy' (AL288-1 discovered in the midst of her 'sea food supper' in Ethopia's Awash Valley) and what you see in the mirror. And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning. Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces. The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel. When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went. As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four. And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up. Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.
