Forget all the speculation and theorising about what is and isn't mind. What is the purpose of mind. To make you more real. So that when you return to the collective unconscious you are more differentiated; your state is more stable; you are more individuated. And on this 'mundane' physical level the answer is much more simple. The purpose of mind is to get you more and better stuff. The above chart shows you what stuff you want and in what order you seek it out. When formulating a magical intention (especially when creating a sigil) you need to slash it down to its absolute fundimentals. I find that referring to the topics on the above chart is an excellent way to focus the mind on the core nature of your desire.
Psysiology: maintenance of internal physiological equilibrium; from cell division to the functions of the major organs; heartbeat; breathing. Eating drinking, digestion, excreting, sleeping, sex. Safety: physical security of the body and protection from damage and ill health. This also includes its essential needs such as the means of ensuring sufficient resources for survival and comfort; career, financial resources, shelter, clothing.
Love/belonging: sexual intimacy; partner relationship; close and extended family ties; friendship; positive social interaction. Esteem: self-esteem; the respect of your family and peer group; leading to confidence, ambition and achievement. Self-actualistion: all the functions below (in the chart) become beneficially integrated at this level and resolve into creativity, effective problem solving, spontaneity, an openness to new ideas, the ability to make good moral choices. (A Jungian would call this process 'individuation' and an alchemist may refer to it as 'coagulation'.) Is is this state that magic should be focussed on achieving and from which magical action is most effective.
The above text is very liberally adapted 'Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs' devised by Abraham Maslow, American psychologist (1908 -1970) and founder of humanistic psychology.
